Before fixing the date of a drone shoot in Mallorca you need to know whether you can fly, where and with which permit, and that work is mine. With the exact location and date I check which UAS geographical zone applies, what restrictions there are and whether the flight fits the open category, a standard scenario or needs an authorisation. I handle coordination with ENAIRE as airspace manager, with the airport or heliport when the site is in their vicinity, and the AESA authorisation where required, with the real timescales up front: in an area with no restrictions a week is usually enough; in controlled airspace more lead time is needed. On the day I fly with a flight plan, aeronautical radio communication under a radio operator licence, weather limits, operator registration and public liability insurance in force. If a spot cannot be flown, I say so before anything is spent and we look for another spot, height or time.

How long does a flight permit take in controlled airspace?
The term controlled airspace covers several different situations – the vicinity of an airport, a restricted UAS geographical zone, coordination with the airspace manager, an operational authorisation – and each route has its own timescale. As soon as you give me the exact location I check which one applies and confirm the real timescale for your case before we fix a date.
What certifications do you hold?
EASA A1/A3, A2 and STS certificates, an aeronautical radio operator licence, operator registration and public liability insurance in force.
What if we cannot fly where we want?
I tell you before you spend anything. We look for another spot, another height or another time, or we drop the aerial shot. I would rather say no to a shot than give you a timescale that is not in my hands.
